So there are very few people indeed who would benefit. Most people who have experience enough to use it will already have enough skill and experience to implement the game as good or better than the source would expose. The only benefit is that a few geeks who don't know much about game programming would enjoy looking at it and learning from it.

They might have archives of long-retired servers, but it seems unlikely. After a decade, there is a chance the original source is no longer (easily) available.
